Lauded by The Washington Post for his “pure” and “poignant” sound, Andrew Bearden Brown is a tenor equally at home on operatic and concert stages. Upcoming oratorio appearances include Bach cantatas and Handel’s Messiah with Duke University, Bach Magnificat at Brown University, and Britten canticles including Abraham & Isaac at Christ Church Savannah.

In the 2023/2024 season, he also covered the role of John Singer Sargent in the world premiere of Damien Geter and Lila Palmer’s American Apollo with Des Moines Metro Opera as an Apprentice Artist. His solo concert appearances for the season included Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra, Bach cantatas with Duke University Chapel and Ashmont Hill Chamber Music, and Handel’s Messiah with Ensemble Altera.

He also debuted with Opera Neo as Marzio in Mozart’s Mitridate and covered Tempo in Handel’s Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno. Andrew’s solo concert appearances for the season included Handel’s Messiah with Tempesta di Mare, as well as with Ashmont Hill Chamber Music for Bach’s St. John Passion, in a performance praised by The Boston Musical Intelligencer as a “carefully balanced interpretation of the Evangelist with deep expression and gravitas.”

Additional operatic highlights include with the Royal College of Music as Torquemada in Ravel’s L’heure espagnole and with Felici Opera as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. As an oratorio soloist, Andrew has also performed with groups such as the Academy of Ancient Music & Voces8 (St. John Passion - solos), the Washington National Cathedral Choir (Elijah), and Boston Schola Cantorum (St. John Passion - Evangelist).

A singer equally dedicated to ensemble singing, Andrew appears on the rosters of Handel & Haydn Society, Washington Bach Consort, The Thirteen, Ensemble Altera, and the Choir of Washington National Cathedral.
