KAREN VUONG, SOPRANO
Karen Vuong is an American soprano based in New York. She studied at the Juilliard School in New York where she received the Novick Career Grant and has enjoyed great success at competitions including the Eastern Regional Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions, Operalia and the grand prize winner of the Marilyn Horne Lieder Competition. She was an inaugural member and two-year participant in Los Angeles Opera’s prestigious Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program, a program designed to support the future of opera by discovering and developing exceptionally gifted young artists. Karen Vuong made debuts with Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Santa Barbara Opera, in the world premiere of Daron Hagen's Amelia at Seattle Opera and Massenet's Werther at Kentucky Opera. She was part of the ensemble at Frankfurt Opera from 2013-2019 where she sang many leading roles. She has also appeared with Portland Opera, Tiroler Festspiele, and Washington Opera.
Recent appearances include Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, a new production of Fioravanti's La cantatrici villane, Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Wagner’s Die Walküre and Parsifal, the title role in Dvorak’s Rusalka, a stunning new production of Bizet’s Carmen, and in concert performances of Verdi’s Oberto. During the 2016/17 season she sang in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Don Giovanni, and in a new production of Betulia liberate. Other roles for the company have included Britten’s Owen Wingrave, and as Donna Elvira (role debut) in Don Giovanni.
