Bach Festival beautifully shows the human voice as instrument | Review (Orlando Sentinel)

While hearing the Bach Festival Society‘s terrific orchestra is always a treat, two events in the 90th annual fest this week gave the musicians a break. Instead, we were treated to another facet of musicianship: Using the human voice as an instrument.

In two concerts different in tone but alike in prowess, The King’s Singers a cappella group and bass-baritone Dashon Burton both demonstrated that vocal power can do so much more than impart words.

The performers also showed us that good music is good music, no matter if it comes from great classical composers, African-American tradition or the Disney film canon.

“There is great music to be explored in every genre,” said Nick Ashby of The King’s Singers. The group’s program reflected that in its variety.
