Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law; the “Black Sunday” dust storm displaces an estimated 300 million tons of topsoil in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma; Babe Ruth hits his 714th and final career home run at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, and the most Popular recording artists were Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby.
Also, on the campus of Rollins College, a group of student singers called the Chapel Choir led by Christopher O. Honaas, the college’s dean o expressive arts, celebrated Johann Sebastian Bach’s 250th birthday by performing excerpts form the hi Mass in B Minor at a vespers service in Knowles Memorial Chapel — the Ralph Adams Cram designed building that has just been completed and dedicated three years earlier,.
