National singing competition debuts this week in Winter Park (Orlando Sentinel)

Dashon Burton is going to tell us a story. It’s his story, the Black community’s story, all of America’s story. And he’s going to do it with music and poetry.

Burton, an acclaimed bass-baritone who has won three Grammy awards, will bring “Brick by Brick: Changing America by Song” to Winter Park as part of the 90th annual Bach Festival.

“The program features a lot of music that tells the story of what it means for me to be a musician, and specifically a Black musician, in this country,” he says. “It’s a deeply personal expression of artistry.”
