Exploring Bach's Moravian Heritage
Bach Festival Society Explores Bach’s Moravian Heritage
(Orlando, FL - November 5, 2019) This month, John V. Sinclair with members of the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra will open the history books and explore the influence that the Moravian Church had on the music of young America. During this lighthearted and informal event, Dr. Nola Reed Knouse, Moravian Music Foundation Director, will provide fascinating and educational discussion interspersed with musical gems from the Moravian Archives. The Society’s latest installment of its Insights & Sounds series, Bach’s Moravian Music Heritage will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Tiedtke Concert Hall on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park. Concert tickets can be purchased from $20 each or as part of a subscription package. More information is available at BachFestivalFlorida.org or by calling the Box Office 407-646-2182.
Orlando Sentinel arts columnist Matt Palm recently described the Insights & Sounds series as being perfect for classical newcomers and veterans alike.
In addition to establishing the first Bach Festival Society in America, the Moravians provided America’s link to baroque and classical-era music. Artistic Director and Conductor John Sinclair speaks admiringly of the Moravians: “They have a rich history of detailed record-keeping of archived original scores, which enables research and discovery of unknown early classical music in America.”
